Golfballs.com Expert Description

TaylorMade's new SLDR driver is the next big breakthrough in golf from TaylorMade, as the SLDR is the longest and easiest to adjust driver they've ever made. And the Tour pros agree. Since its debut on Tour, the SLDR driver has found its way into the bags of some of the best Tour players in the world.

TaylorMade credits SLDR's remarkable distance to moving the center of gravity (CG) lower and forward for less spin and a higher launch. They then reinvented their own innovation by totally rethinking movable weight technology to make it better performing and just simply easier to use. The adjustment involves sliding a single weight to tune the SLDR driver to unlock even more yards.

If you play the TaylorMade SLDR in the neutral position, you'll quickly experience all of the advancements that make this driver the longest they've ever made. Then simply unscrew the weight and move it towards draw or fade, up to 21 different positions, to tune it directly to your game. Then you'll notice the longest go even longer.

Movable Weight Reinvention

The new SLDR weight represents a complete reinvention of movable weight technology, making it easier to use and ultimately more effective, sporting 21 different locations depending upon your exact needs. The movable weights in the TaylorMade SLDR driver shift the clubhead's center of gravity horizontally toward either toward the toe to influence a fade or toward the heel to influence a draw. SLDR's sliding weight allows you to move the center of gravity far enough to promote a side-to-side trajectory change of up to 30 yards.

Lower Center of Gravity

It's simple: lower CG = larger face hot-spot. And larger face hot spots are good. What this ends up doing for you is decreases the spin of the ball off the clubhead, ultimately increasing distance. It's simply hotter and longer than any other driver TaylorMade has manufactured.

SLDR Weight Technology

TaylorMade understands that adjusting your driver can be tedious and frustrating. You can ease those frustrations with the introduction of their easy to use SLDR weight technology. Just twist to unlock the 20 gram weight, slide to your preferred position and twist again to lock in place. The weight stays connected to driver. It's that simple.

Alignment Benefits

Aesthetically, SLDR’s confluence of color, shape, and visual accents make it one of the most visually compelling clubs TaylorMade has ever created. And TaylorMade understands that adjustability isn't the whole story in determining a great driver. How the club feels and looks at address and the ease of lining it up properly is incredibly important and they've done three things to help you at address. First, the crown graphics on the top of the SLDR driver line up to promote accurate face alignment. Second, the silver face and charcoal gray crown gives the perfect amount of light to dark contrast. And lastly, the chrome button-back at the rear of the crown works with the decals to enhance overall alignment ease.

Tune Your Loft

In addition to the movable weight technology, the TaylorMade SLDR driver features a 12-position loft sleeve. What this does is allow you to easily dial in your optimal launch angle, plus-or-minus 1.5 degrees to maximize your overall distance. SLDR is available in three lofts – 9.5-degree, 10.5-degree and high launch (HL).

Shaft and Grip

The stock configuration of the TaylorMade SLDR features a Fujikura Speeder 57 shaft, available in X, S, R and M flexes and is equipped with a TM 360 grip.

The TaylorMade's SLDR driver is the whole package: beautiful design, thoughtful construction and unparalleled performance. No wonder pros trust it in their bags. And since it's the longest driver TaylorMade has ever engineered, who would blame them?

TaylorMade SLDR Driver Overview

  • Easy and intuitive SLDR movable weight promotes up to 30 yards of shot shape adjustment
  • Low-and-forward CG promotes high launch, fast speed and low spin for huge distance
  • Silver button-back works with subtle crown markings for easy clubface alignment
  • Increase or reduce the loft 1.5-degrees with 12-position loft-sleeve

Golfballs.com Staff Review: from Bo
Taylor Made SLDR
2/7/2014
The Taylor Made SLDR is engineered for a lower center of gravity which allows us as players to increase the loft, increasing distance. I found that the SLDR felt much more solid than their previous drivers and did not feel hollow, much like the R11 and R1 felt for me. The SLDR main feature is the moveable sliding weight technology on the bottom of the club allowing the weight to be set for a draw or fade bias depending on the shot shape of the player. I grade the SLDR an 9 out of 10 for its classic look, much improved feel, accuracy, and distance.
