I am a struggling but avid golfer, about a 25-30 handicap, just got a R9 460 from AMEX- inconsistent with my driver, now a R5 9.5 reg flex. Any idea what loft, flex i should choose for my r9 460?

The R9 is a very versatile driver. You can manipulate your ball flight more so with this driver than any driver before now so you should find success with it. If you like the trajectory of the 9.5 you have now you should try to stay within that loft. The higher lofted a driver is, the easier it will be to hit. Regular flex is probably the perfect flex at your level.

Is the R9 made with a 425 head instead of the 460. I prefer the smaller size for accuracy. Swing speed is avg. 93 HDCP is a 6. Also is ther a TP version? Not real sure I want to move from the TP R7 I

The head size of the regular and TP r9 is 420. The TP model comes with an upgraded shaft which is the only difference from the stock version.

r9 is too difficult to play for a 25 hcp? Do you think 10,5? stiff is too higt degrees for setting on -left- for a medium speed swing?

Gio.....I wouldbet that as a 25 Hdcp your swing speed is not fast enough for a Stiff shaft. You need to get a Regular speed shaft. I would also recomend an 11* Driver. You will find no loss in distance I bet and will hit it a little straighter. The extra degree will take off that much more side spin....Hope I help.

The r9 460 is a game improvement driver so it will not be too difficult to hit if you have it set for your game. If you go with a 10.5 degree and set your shaft to L for max draw the effective loft will be equivalent to a 11.5 degree driver. In a regular flex you should find success with this driver.

Does R9 comes with stiff or regular stiff shaft or both. Playing with stiff shaft gives better distance and positioning. My interest is stiff if available

The R9 is available in stiff, regular, senior, or X-Stiff depending on what you need. The driver does not come with multiple shafts when you order it if that is what you are asking.

Technically there are 4 options. The R9, R9 TP, R9 460, and R9 460 TP. The only difference between the standard versions and the TP are the shaft options.

If you are looking to increase the launch conditions the Matrix Xcon 5 is the shaft offered with the lowest kickpoint of all the available options of any R9. This should help you if you are looking to gain some carry. If that doesnt work, you can interchange the shaft with an 11.5 degree head and that may do the trick.

I think you'd be much better served to move back into a regular flex driver. You'll probably pick up more distance with the switch.

I understand most drivers come in a 10.5 and 9.5 degree loft. I use a 10.5. When teeing off, my ball usually has a lot of loft and goes really high in the air, should I switch to a 9.5 degree

Is it worth testing out? Absolutely. Will the 9.5 give you a more penetrating ball flight is the question. Most golfers would kill to have more hang time but I know how you feel. I was in the same boat at one time and tested different lofts much like you. I ended up staying with the higher loft though. I would test it prior to officially making a move.

If you are not a low handicap golfer, where you play can make a lot of difference in driver loft choices. In the northern US. especially on the plains, wind can be a huge factor in driver loft effect. We have 160 yd par 3's where 10/12 handicap golfers are using drivers straight into a 35 mph wind. I use a 9.5 TM Burner draw. But I have a Titlist 10.5 I take to Phoenix (low or no wind) and FL (tree lined courses). High trajectory on windy links courses can really beat you up with a high loft. //

In general, the 9.5 degree will tend to give a lower ball flight. However, the shaft also contributes to launch angle. Find a Golf shop that has a simulator that can measure your swing path, launch angle, club-head speed, ball speed, spin and distance. With this information, your Pro can tell you if you need a different club, or just a new shaft.

My driver swing speed is 90mph, straight ball flight, and using the Burner driver, I need a stiff shaft. With the regular I do not have the same control as with the stiff shaft and distance is almost identical. Try one out on a range or on a monitor. Swing speeds do not always reflect the correct shaft for your swing. It's only a generic number but is a good starting point.

What's the difference between the R9 460 and the R9 TP 460 drivers besides the price. I have a 15 handicap and my average drive is 260 yards, which driver model would suit me better? Thanks

That clubhead speed is considered to be high enough for an extra stiff. Typically speaking, anyone who can swing their driver 105+ should be in extra stiff.

Great Question. Everything is subjective to your swing though. Do you tend to swing slower or more quickly? The rule of thumb is that if your swing speed is slower than 95mph then you should probably get a regular flex driver and if your swing is over 100mph then you should probably get a stiff flex driver. That leaves a little grey area that you from 95 to 100 where you can use either flex.
