TP5 - Quality Golf Ball
I've been using the pro v1x for some time and really do like them. However, when I saw these for sale (buy 2 get 1 free), I figured why not try them.
At first, I could really notice a softer feeling ball right from the first hit. With that, I should say that on the average drive, I was probably coming up 5-10 yds shorter than if I was using pro v1x. What made up for that was the stopping ability on the green. I can't tell you how many times I have skipped up to and past the green using longer irons, but with these balls, I was getting good stop. On shorter irons, you'll get excellent lift and a consistent drop and stop or if you're more aggressive a decent backspin with the TP5.
If you're moving up from a cheap ball, like slazenger, you'll really notice a difference. 1 of the guys I was out with was using RAW slazenger, a hard - built for distance ball, and after trying the tp5, he's now a tp5 guy.
Putting was what really won me over! The ball comes off my putter like a dream. Instead of almost banging off the putter like with harder balls, it feels like it softly pops off the putter. I probably never had a better putting day and it was the first day I tried the tp5.
The only negatives, in my opinion, was 5-10 yards shorter drives (vs pro v1x) and the ball seems to get scuffed up easy if you hit the cart path. I can't say that's an absolute, I only hit the cart path 1 time, but it did leave a pretty nice scuff mark.
If you factor in the quality of the ball, the soft feel, stopping ability and price, it's a better deal than the pro v1x. I'm happy to sacrifice a little distance off the drive for better control everywhere else.
