‘Cactus’ Wedge Honors Dubuisson’s Shots

Victor Dubuisson might not have won the Match Play Championship in the Arizona desert two weeks ago, but the 23-year-old Frenchman earned himself a ton of fans in his sudden-death playoff loss to Jason Day.

Mostly, he earned the respect of golfers worldwide with two incredible greenside saves from under cactus and desert brush to continue what eventually became a 23-hole final round of match play.

In honor of those shots, Titleist gave Dubuisson a cactus-engraved Vokey wedge this week for use at the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship at Doral this week.

Dubuisson, who vaulted into prominence and jumped near the top of the European Ryder Cup standings with his runner-up finish, pulled off two shots on the first two sudden-death holes after he and Day were tied at the end of the match-play finals.

The first one came from under a cholla cactus that he hit within four feet to send the match to the 20th hole. There, his second shot was left of the grandstand and in desert sand between several dead branches, and he hit a blind shot that wound up within seven feet to again extend the match and leave Day shaking his head in amazement.
