R9 460 9.5* Still Review...
5/26/2009
Handicap 10 - 15
I played my R9 460 for the first time this weekend and loved it. Mine has the stock Aldila shaft in stiff and 9.5* of loft set on neutral. I was pretty consistent with the driver, actually hitting every fairway on the front nine. The driver is very forgiving and gives off a nice sound at impact. I'd say out of the 14 times it was used, I hit it dead on the sweet spot 4-5 times and it felt amazing. I really feel the added length to the shaft gives me a little added distance without the sacrifice of accu

Does R9 comes with stiff or regular stiff shaft or both. Playing with stiff shaft gives better distance and positioning. My interest is stiff if available
How many different R9 drivers are there. 460cc, 460cc tp, and just R9 what is the difference?

Technically there are 4 options. The R9, R9 TP, R9 460, and R9 460 TP. The only difference between the standard versions and the TP are the shaft options.

I just recently purchased a R9 460 with a regular stock shaft. I would like to upgrade to the Motore Stiff Shaft. How do I do this and where should I buy the new shaft? Is it just as simple as plug
I'm not satisfied with the current launch trajectory of my current R9 460,10.5 Stiff Aldila REAX60. I have a 100 swing speed when I'm fresh, but to get the trajectory I want, I have to maintain a spin

If you are looking to increase the launch conditions the Matrix Xcon 5 is the shaft offered with the lowest kickpoint of all the available options of any R9. This should help you if you are looking to gain some carry. If that doesnt work, you can interchange the shaft with an 11.5 degree head and that may do the trick.
Hello,
I understand most drivers come in a 10.5 and 9.5 degree loft. I use a 10.5. When teeing off, my ball usually has a lot of loft and goes really high in the air, should I switch to a 9.5 degree

Thank you for your question.
Is it worth testing out? Absolutely. Will the 9.5 give you a more penetrating ball flight is the question. Most golfers would kill to have more hang time but I know how you feel. I was in the same boat at one time and tested different lofts much like you. I ended up staying with the higher loft though. I would test it prior to officially making a move.
Play Well,
Johnny

The higher loft will also be more controllable of the tee..

If you are not a low handicap golfer, where you play can make a lot of difference in driver loft choices. In the northern US. especially on the plains, wind can be a huge factor in driver loft effect. We have 160 yd par 3's where 10/12 handicap golfers are using drivers straight into a 35 mph wind. I use a 9.5 TM Burner draw. But I have a Titlist 10.5 I take to Phoenix (low or no wind) and FL (tree lined courses). High trajectory on windy links courses can really beat you up with a high loft. //
If I purchase an 8.5 degree R-9, what are the upper and lower adjustable limits for loft?

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the Taylor Made R9 driver. Taylor Made's FCT (flight control technology) offers the 8.5 degree head the capability to set the effective loft at 9.5 degree if set to the L setting and 7.5 degree when set at the R setting. I hope this information is helpful. Please contact us at 1-800-372-2557 if you have additional questions. Thanks, Andy.
my avg swing speed is about 80 to 90 . what would be the best Shaft Flex for me

Thank you for your question.
You would fall in the 'Regular' flex category based upon your swing speed.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Thank you,
Johnny

You're definitely a regular flex
Senior flex starts from 70-80
Regular is from 80 to about 100
Stiff 100 to 115ish
X-stiff 115+
What's the difference between the R9 460 and the R9 TP 460 drivers besides the price. I have a 15 handicap and my average drive is 260 yards, which driver model would suit me better? Thanks

Thank you for your question. The Taylor Made R9 Driver in the regular and TP versions are only different in the shaft selections. The TP shafts are upgraded shaft offerings that adhere to the better players and ball strikers. With Taylor Made's FCT technology the head can be adjusted to open, closed, or neutral face angles to maximize your shot making potential.
I have used the YS-6 shaft in the 905T and the FT-i with pretty good success. Can you name me a couple other shafts that you think would give me the same "feel" and control? Thanks.

Thank you for your inquiry. There are a few other brands that have similar weight and launch profiles of the Graphite Design YS series. You should notice that the Aldila NVS 65, the Graphalloy ProLaunch 65, the UST V2 67, and the Fujikura E360 are all very comparable.

i have the graphalloy prolaunch 65 and it works great!is is very flexible.
My avg club speed was measured to be 108 mph , should I be looking at a extra stiff shaft
A
02/24/2009 2:00 PMGolfballs.com Employee: Andy
That clubhead speed is considered to be high enough for an extra stiff. Typically speaking, anyone who can swing their driver 105+ should be in extra stiff.
Great Question. Everything is subjective to your swing though. Do you tend to swing slower or more quickly? The rule of thumb is that if your swing speed is slower than 95mph then you should probably get a regular flex driver and if your swing is over 100mph then you should probably get a stiff flex driver. That leaves a little grey area that you from 95 to 100 where you can use either flex.
I hope this helps.
